Uribe calls for collaboration in Medellin crime fight

Colombia news - Alvaro Uribe

Colombian President Alvaro Uribe called on Medellin authorities to work together to battle growing crime in Colombia's second largest city.

Uribe Sunday met with members of the security forces to talk about the recent wave of assassinations and the security situation in Medellín.

The President ordered the authorities of the department Antioquia to combat the criminal groups without appeasement. "We have to bring security back for all people of Colombia's second largest city", said he.

Uribe pointed out that to confront the evolving gangs, the army, police, DAS (Colombia's intelligence agency), civil authorities and the community have to work together.

"We will have to offer rewards for every assassination to capture the murderers," Uribe stated as one of the measurements.

Medellín has been seeing a rise in violence and assassinations the last couple of month.
