Santos denies army rescue of Moncayo

Colombia news - Santos Moncayo

Colombian armed forces are not involved in any operation to rescue hostage Pablo Emilio Moncayo whose unilateral release by the FARC is deadlocked, Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said Friday.

According to the Minister, authorities "do not even know where the soldier is."

The Colombian government is being criticized by the hostage's family and former hostages for not allowing opposition senator Piedad Cordoba to mediate the release of the hostage, who has been in FARC captivity for more than 11 years. The release is deadlocked, because the FARC insists Cordoba plays a role.
