Opposition takes wiretap scandal to OAS

Colombia news - Petro Rojas

Opposition senators will denounce Colombia's secret service DAS before the Organization of American States (OAS) for illegally wiretapping members of the opposition, journalists and magistrates.

Senators Hector Eli Rojas and Gustavo Petro will talk to OAS Secretary General Jose Miguel Insulza to inform him of the situation the senators call "the most serious in the Democratic history" of Colombia.

According to Rojas' Liberal Party, communication of more than 600 Colombians was intercepted by the DAS in the past five years without any legal justification.

Petro and Rojas told newspaper El Espectador they still have no date fixed for their meeting with the OAS.

The DAS is currently being investigated by Colombia's Prosecution General about the alleged illegal wiretaps. The service sacked more than thirty of its own officials already.
