Army intimidated journalist: El Espectador

Colombia news - Gustavo Alvarez

The six men who broke into the home of a famous Colombian journalist, threatened him and robbed him of computers and cell phones were members of the army, newspaper El Espectador reported Saturday.

The 70-year old Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal was threatened to be kidnapped Thursday by six armed men who entered his home in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca.

According to Alvarez, the men appeared to be searching for documents and classified information.

The Police would now be in possession of recordings from a security camera nearby the home of the journalist that show the six men arriving in a van that is owned by the Colombian army.

The Police informed Armed Forces commander Freddy Padilla of the findings who promised all collaboration necessary.
