Colombia tightens security for Mexican swine flu

Colombia news - Swine flu

Colombian authorities tightened security on airports and borders to avoid a possible entrance of the swine flu that killed more than 60 people in Mexico.

According to Social Welfare Minister Diego Palacio, the authorities activated the Pandemium Plan, that allows health authorities to take preventive measures and to be on high alert in case the disease rears its head within Colombian borders and action must be taken.

The Government is working together with the Red Cross and Civil Defense to be prepared for any possible outbreak in Colombia.

"It's a new virus. We must be calm, but act quickly," Palacio said.
