6 gunmen raid journalist's house

Six armed people entered the house of Colombian journalist and writer Gustavo Álvarez Gardeazábal in Tuluá, Valle del Cauca. They held the 70-year old at gunpoint before making off with cell phones and his computers containing valuable information.

Alvarez, who is the ex-governor of Valle del Cauca, was unhurt.

He told Radio Caracol that the intruders communicated constantly with another person via cellular phone during the 20 minute raid. Alvarez said they appeared to be searching for documents and classified information.

"They're not going to intimidate me," said the journalist. "I will continue to show my face, I will continue to distribute information and tell the truth in Colombia."

Authorities are working to discover if the raid was committed by paramilitaries, as the victim has claimed.
