Hostage's life in danger: Córdoba

Colombia news - Piedad Cordoba

The life of Pablo Emilio Moncayo, the hostage the FARC promised to release, is in danger because of army operations in the area where he is held, mediator Piedad Córdoba said Thursday.

Córdoba, opposition senator and leader of social activistgroup 'Colombians for Peace', told newspaper El Espectador that the army is carrying out operations similar to that of Operation Jaque -- that liberated Ingrid Betancourt, three U.S. contractors and eleven Colombians -- and are endangering the life of the hostage.

The senator said that the military operations may delay the FARC to hand over their Moncoya, who's been in guerrilla captivity for more than 11 years.

Córdoba also accused the Government of having an "autistic" attitude and not making any progress on the necessary logistics needed to liberate the hostage.
