Uribe 'convincing himself' to not run for third term

Colombia news - Jimmy Carter and Alvaro Uribe

Colombia President Álvaro Uribe said Tuesday he is trying to "convince his soul" not to run for a third term in 2010, but is still in doubt, after the Head of State received a phone call from former U.S. President Jimmy Carter.

According to Caracol Radio, Uribe discussed his possible re-election with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who had called him and asked about his 2010 plans. Uribe said he told Carter he is "having a personal dilemma" about the issue and asked Carter to visit Colombia, so the former Head of State could give him some advise.

"I am not convinced of my own re-election," Uribe told Carter in a conversation that lasted approximately ten minutes.
