Colombia news - gun

A Cauca indigenous leader was assassinated this weekend, three days after members of his community found a list of locals presumed paramilitaries want to kill.

Poliodoro Casso was found dead Saturday evening in the village of Pioyá after he had been shot in the chest by unknown men.

Indigenous authorities in the region expressed their concern about a list that was found three days prior to the murder. This list contained 42 names of members of the community, including children, that will be killed by a group calling themselves the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, the paramilitary group that demobilized in 2006 and 2007.

The indigenous community recently voiced its rejection of illegal armed groups and condemned violence against its people.
