FARC to give proof of life of 'exchangeable' hostages

Colombia news - Piedad Cordoba

Colombia's largest rebel group FARC will deliver proof of life of the 21 members of the security forces the guerrillas hold captive, opposition senator Piedad Córdoba said Friday.

According to the senator, the guerrillas will hand over the proof of life when they release Pablo Emilio Moncayo, a hostage for eleven years who the rebels promised to release.

"They will hand over the body of [deceased hostage] major Guevera and the proof of life of the 21 soldiers and policemen," the senator said at a political forum in Cali.

Córdoba, the government and the International Committee of the Red Cross are currently talking about the details of the upcoming hostage release.

The FARC want to exchange the 21 members of the security forces for 500 guerrillas held in Colombian and U.S. prisons.
