US Representative Miller is enemy of Colombia: vice-President

U.S. Representative George Miller (D-CA) is an enemy of Colombia, the country's vice-President Francisco Santos said Thursday.

Miller had said in a debate in the U.S. House of Representatives that the current situation in Colombia reminded him of the times General Augusto Pinochet ruled Chile and Roberto Dawisón was the leader of El Salvador.

"It seems to me this statement shows the lack of objectivity of mister Miller, of his radical politicization of the reality in Colombia. It makes him an enemy of Colombia, who only cares about his personal interests," the vice-President told RCN Radio.

If Miller "had come to the country six or seven years ago (...) he would have seen a country that was terrorized because the citizens couldn't leave the house, where the kidnappings were a daily matter and more than 200 labor workers were murdered," he added.

I guess vice-President Francisco Santos comments do not reflect the freedom of speech of the Bill of Rights! Sorry in Colombia if you use your right to free speech you are silenced by the opposition with the help of a sacrio! Santos needs to shut up and thank the USA for the Aide the gringos send his government!

Wow! Dissent makes one an "enemy"? Voicing an opinion is a crime?

What the heck kind of 'model democracy' is that supposed to be?

200 dead labor workers as opposed to the current 133 dead labor workers, what's the nut job bragging about?

If Miller lived in Colombia; then Santos & Uribe would have the DAS (before disbanding it to a new named agency) completely without their ordering it carry out secret electronic illegal surveillance on Miller, then Uribe would publicly declare Miller a collaborator with guerrillas, and then the totally-disbanded paramilitaries could issue a death threat to Miller.

And then Uribe & Santos would come back to brag about their incredible respect for Colombian democracy, and whine about how mean old Hugo Chavez said something mean about them.

Santos' rosy view of the Colombian situation is fine for the larges cities; but as usual, no one cares about the chaos being lived in most of the rural country side.

Santos is the real enemy of Colombia. His government has murdered thousands and when people speak out about it they are either killed or accused of being guerrillas and locked up. Just looking at the figures it is clear that Uribe's regime is worse than Pinochet's. At least Pinochet, unlike Uribe and Santos, wore a uniform and did not hide his true colours.
