Córdoba in Washington to seek support for peace process


Colombia news - Piedad Cordoba

Colombian opposition Senator Piedad Córdoba is in Washington to seek support for peace talks between the Colombian Government and the country's largest rebel group FARC.

Córdoba is accompanied by coalition senator Rodrigo Lara and will meet with several prominent members of Congress , human rights organizations and representatives of civil organizations.

Colombia's vice-President Francisco Santos Wednesday denounced the visit, saying the opponents of the Government's hardline are trying to discredit Colombia.

Córdoba, one of President Álvaro Uribe's most vocal opponents is part of 'Colombians for Peace', the group that recently brokered the release of six FARC hostages and seeks a political way out of the nearly 45-year olf violent conflict.
