DMG helped campaign Bogotá mayor: Cambio

Suspected money launderer and pyramid schemer DMG supported the election campaign of Bogotá mayor Samuel Moreno, weekly Cambio reported Thursday.

According to the magazine, the mayor's campaign was logistically backed by DMG and the city's current ombudsman received millions of pesos of the company that was shut down in October 2008 after accusations of money laundering.

In one of the recordings obtained by the magazine, DMG lawyer and William Suarez,David Murcia's right hand, promise to deliver the transport needed for members of Moreno's campaign team to move around the city to Jorge Iván Bonilla, a young Bogotá politician that worked as middle man between DMG and the mayor's campaign team.

When called for a response, Moreno's spokesman Andrés Rojas denied the current mayor knows Bonilla or that he ever worked with him. According to the spokesman, it was not certain it was Murcia who had delivered the transport used in the campaign.

Cambio also established that DMG sent 200 million pesos (US$78 thousand)to the house of the city's ombudsman Francisco Rojas Birry. The ombudsman admits having known David Murcia, but says he doesn't understand why he is mentioned in conversations about money transfers. "I don't know what they're talking about," he said.
