South Colombia volcano erupts again

colombia news - galeras volcano

Authorities in the south of Colombia are on high alert after the Galeras volcano Friday erupted again.

A loud explosion caused by the eruption that shook the Nariño capital of Pasto occurred just minutes after 7AM.

Authorities immediately raised the level of alert to red and again called on people living in the vicinity of the volcano to evacuate.

During the eruption of the same volcano last week, locals refused to leave their farms, not wanting to leave their crops and animals unattended.

According to Luz Amanda Pulido, director of Colombia's National Disaster and Emergency center there have been no reports of injuries, even though the eruption caused rocks and ashes to fall from the sky.

Rescue workers are ready to receive possible refugees in nearby shelters.
