Colombia has first contact with Obama administration

Colombia's Foreign Minister Jaime Bermúdez had his first telephone conversation with Hillary Clinton as U.S. Secretary of State.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the two officials talked about all issues of bilateral interest, including the pending free trade pact, Plan Colombia and the fight against drug trafficking in general.

The conversation lasted more than 20 minutes and was "purposeful and constructive" Colombia's Foreign Ministry said.

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters at a press conference Tuesday President Obama was to call Colombian President Álvaro Uribe too without getting into details.
