Bogotá church of which roof collapsed lacked permits

The Bogotá church of which a roof collapse caused the death of a 35-year-old worker on Monday, was operating without the required permits. This was revealed by authorities a day later.

The roof of the Misión Carismática church collapsed at 9:15 local time on Monday, just when a group of builders had returned from its first break. One was killed and three others were wounded.

As it turns out, the Christian church is located in an area that is meant for industrial purposes only. Permits had been requested but not granted.

The architect in charge of studying the request, Jennifer Mayorga, explained that the existing license doesn't allow for a change of use, ie. to build a church.

Reportedly, no less than 60 percent of Bogotá's 5.000 religious venues fails to meet the minimum safety requirements.
