Cambio Radical widens coalition rift

Colombian Coalition party Cambio Radical says it has withdrawn its support for the re-election of President Uribe.

The party claims to be experiencing Government retaliation for its hesitation towards and its role in the sinking of the immediate re-election of Uribe.

According to Cambio Radical leader German Vargas Lleras -- who has clear ambitions to run for the 2010 Presidency himself -- he will not replace the two deputy Ministers that resigned earlier this week, pushing his party further away from the coalition.

Interior and Justice Minister Fabio Valencia Cossio Thursday had said he would replace one of the deputies with a Cambio Radical member to keep the party on board the government boat.

But Vargas Lleras refuses and openly said his party will no longer support the re-election of the President. "We feel compromised to the Government and the job it gained at the 2006 elections, but that can't be confused with the 2010 elections," he told Caracol Radio.
