Colombian opposition Senator Piedad Córdoba met with the head delegate of the Red Cross in Colombia Thursday to discuss the expected liberation of six FARC hostages.
Córdoba talked with Christophe Beney for an hour and both parties felt the meeting had gone well, sources within the Red Cross told Caracol Radio.
The Red Cross wants to handle the process leading to the liberation of the two politicians and four members of the security forces with "extreme caution", seeks a quick release and will not intervene in the formation of the commission to pick up the hostages, the radio station said.
Colombia's largest guerrilla group FARC announced the release of the hostages in December and allows both Córdoba and the Red Cross to prepare the pick up. The guerrillas also demand a foreign observer, something the Colombian Government fiercely opposes.
Córdoba expects the hostages to be free before January 15.

... In my opinion (and that of many others), Córdoba is nothing but Chávez' right hand and I really don't trust her to get involved..Sure, liberate six hostages..and the same day the FARC kidnaps eight others? Just like last year? No, de FARC requires a centralized 'plan de campagne' instead of wasting too much time trying to liberate one after the other, with about 700 hostages left to go. |
