Araújo aspires 2010 presidency

Former FARC hostage and Foreign Minister Fernando Araújo (Conservative Party) has the ambition to become Colombia's next President, he told newspaper El Tiempo.

Araújo, Colombia's Foreign Minister before Jaime Bermúdez took office earlier this year, opposes a third term for current President Álvaro Uribe. "Uribe, as a candidate, would be inconvenient for democracy," he said.

Araújo became Uribe's Foreign Minister just two months after he had escaped the FARC that had held him captive for six years. He had previously been Minister of Development for the Pastrana administration, but was forced to resign because of alleged corruption.
