Arrest warrants for five soldiers for killing civilian

The Prosecutor General's office warranted the arrest for five members of the army who are suspected of having murdered civilians in Putumayo to later present them as guerrillas killed in combat.

The lieutenant, two officers and two soldiers are suspected of having murdered a peasant in the area around Puerto Asis in 2006.

The farmer was later presented as a guerrilla killed in combat.

The Colombian army has come under scrutiny after an increasing number of members of the military were suspected of killing civilians to make the war against the FARC look more effective. The prosecution is currently investigating over 1000 members of the armed forces.
