FARC destroys radar; Cali airport flights delayed

Alleged rebels of the FARC have attacked a radar station in the Cauca department, killing one policeman and causing delays at the airport of Colombia's third largest city, Cali, authorities said Saturday.

The rebels attacked the radio station, which was guarded by approximately 18 policemen, late Friday evening.

The rebels were able to disable the radar station, kill one policemen and injure another three.

The radar station was used by the air force to monitor drug trafficking and by Cali airport for civilian aviation. The destruction of the radar station caused delays at Cali airport.

The FARC ended the attack Saturday morning and the policemen were relieved when the Colombian Air Force sent blackhawk helicopters and Army ground troops arrived at the scene of combat.
