Paramilitaries threaten university 312 times

The National University in Bogotá, Colombia's largest public university, has received 312 threats by paramilitary group Águilas Negras, university rector Moisés Wasserman said Friday.

Earlier Friday the university's board of directors denounced a letter from the Águilas Negras announcing it considered 32 of the university's students and their families 'military targets'. The paramilitaries say the students are members of the FARC or of the Communist youth movement.

The Águilas Negras say they have "personnel" on campus who will impose a curfew for those they consider leftist activists.

The infiltration of both the leftist FARC and right wing paramilitaries is something that isn't new, university students and the director of the National University say.

Colombia's chief prosecutor announced the investigation into the possible FARC membership of 55 students at different public universities and say some arrests already have been made. There is no official investigation into the possible infiltration of paramilitaries on Colombian campuses.
