100 John Does buried in Ocaña this year

Local authorities of Ocaña say that the town has received around a hundred unidentified dead bodies this year. Last week the bodies of eleven missing persons were found in a mass grave in same the town in the north east of Colombia.

The Ocaña authorities told Caracol Radio all bodies died because of violence and were brought to the town from surrounding fields and villages.

They don't know the identity of the bodies and say they were buried in mass graves.

The eleven missing persons that were found in one of the local mass graves last week were from the poor south of Bogotá and the town of Soacha, approximately 500 miles from where they were found. Investigation on the bodies learned they had all been shot dead less than 48 hours after their disappearance.

The Colombian army is suspected of the death of the discovered missing persons. Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos said last week he would have the matter investigated. Three alleged members of the Águilas Negras were arrested over the weekend. They are suspected of having recruited the people found in Ocaña.

The United Nations earlier Monday called on Colombia to take urgent measures and bring those responsible for the murders to justice.

Last week alone 46 cases of people who had disappeared and ended up on the army's body count were reported.
