Guillermo Solorzano, 31 years old, was kidnapped by the FARC on June 4, 2007, while serving as police chief for the Florida municipality of the western Cauca department.
Solorzano was taken while meeting with a local family in the Cauca department. Also kidnapped were the father and 18 year old son of the family however, they have since been released.
Solorzano is married to Julia Maria with whom he has one daughter, Sofia.
In a video released by the FARC in April, 2010, Solorzano was shown to be in good health. In it, he stated that the FARC's call for the creation of a humanitarian agreement space in the Florida municipality is both, "a national and international desire."
Speaking to El Tiempo in January, Solorzano's father, an Ecuadorian, said, "he was always a model son who excelled in everything he did and who always dreamed of becoming a policeman."
Due to Solorzano's Ecuadorian background, the Ecuadorean government have taken a keen interest in the release operation, stating his upcoming liberation is, "a pleasure for both the government and the Ecuadorean people," El Espectador reported Friday.
Solorzano is one of three hostages to be released on Sunday, the final three in a week that has so far seen three others released in two separate operations.
