Colombia news - Salin Sanmiguel

Army Corporal Salin Sanmiguel, 28 years old, was captured by the FARC May 23, 2008. He is due to be released Sunday.

Sanmiguel was taken while serving in Colombia's western department of Tolima after an attack by the FARC's 21st Front.

He is married to Angelica Lopez Hincapie with whom he has daughter, Samantha, who was only two months old when he was captured. He also has another daughter from a previous relationship named Tatiana, aged 6 years old.

Speaking to El Tiempo in January, Sanmiguel's wife said, "we want this nightmare to end soon, not only for us and the five families of the boys to be released this week, but for everyone."

She added that when Samantha asks about her father, she uses a reply that Colombian families with kidnapped relatives have sadly become accustomed to; that he is away on work and will be home soon.

Since being taken, Sanmiguel's paternal grandmother has passed away. However, on the day of his release, his maternal grandmother will be celebrating her 81st birthday. It is the best birthday gift she could hope for, Sanmiguel's mother, Olga, told Caracol radio.

Sanmiguel is one of three hostages to be released on Sunday, the final three of this week's release operations.
