Henry Lopez Martinez, 25 years old, was captured by the FARC on May 23, 2010 while serving with the marines in the Caqueta department of southwest Colombia.
He was the only one taken during a FARC ambush on a Navy patrol in rural San Vicente in the department. Nine marines were killed while a further five were injured.
Born in Lorica in the northern department of Codoba, Martinez is married and has a 2-year-old son.
He is due to be released Friday.
