Uribe speaks with veep candidate Biden, travels to El Salvador

Colombian president Álvaro Uribe will leave New York for El Salvador Friday to meet with his counterpart Elías Antonio Saca and participate in the National Private Business Meeting.

In other news, the Colombian president spoke by phone with democratic vice presidential candidate Joseph Biden for about 15 minutes, covering economic themes and the bilateral trade agreement, reported the president’s press office.

“The dialogue was constructive,” said Uribe, echoing his comments earlier this month after concluding a telephone conversation with Biden’s running mate, presidential candidate Barack Obama.

The Colombian head of state said then: “(It was) a very constructive phone call, covering many issues.”

Uribe will begin his visit with an honorary lunch with Saca, then deliver a speech on democratic security at the Young People’s Challenges and Tests Conference, before attending the business meeting, reported Spanish news agency EFE.

The El Savadorian president last visited Bogotá in 2006, but was in Cartagena las July for a regional anti-drug summit, according to EFE.
