Swine flu confirmed in Bogota

Colombia news - Uribe sneezes

Colombia's national government warns for a possible second outbreak of the swine flu following the death of a woman in a town 50 miles north west of Bogota and the appearance of other apparent swine flu cases in the capital itself.

According to Health Minister Diego Palacio, hospitals need to be extra vigilant for signs that could indicate infections of the AH1N1 virus.

"We need to be very careful. There have been a few new cases which requires of all citizens to be aware that the virus still is around in the whole country," the minister said.

The 2009 outbreak of swine flu cost the lives of more than 200 Colombians. Colombian President Alvaro Uribe also fell victim to the new virus.
