Colombia's oil output up 13%, tops 700,000 bpd

Colombia news - oil barrels

Colombia's oil production rose 13 percent in October from a year earlier to 704,000 barrels per day due to better output from state oil company Ecopetrol and its partners, the government said on Friday.

Colombia's monthly production was up from 623,000 bpd registered in October last year, according to statistics from the National Hydrocarbons Agency.

The Andean country has seen what the government calls a "mini-boom" in petroleum investment thanks in part to improved security under President Alvaro Uribe who has sent troops to curb the country's conflict and retake areas once under the control of illegal armed groups.

Ecopetrol's production rose thanks to the Los Llanos pipeline coming online to serve the key Rubiales oilfield, which is now producing 100,000 bpd.

Production at Ecopetrol and its partners rose 8.34 percent to 636,000 bpd in October while output associated with contracts with the hydrocarbons agency climbed to 68,000 bpd compared with 36,000 bpd a year earlier. (Reuters)
