Uribe confident EU trade deal will succeed

Colombian president Álvaro Uribe is confident a trade agreement with the European Union will be successfully negotiated.

Uribe said he hopes the European Union accepts to negotiate with Perú and Colombia, not the full South American block as previously has been done.

“We see, for the development of the country, a great future in the measure that we can make this agreement with Europe. Ecuador and Bolivia until now have said no. We are going to see how the European Union agrees to negotiate  with Perú and with Colombia, without damaging what they’ll later do with Ecuador and Bolivia.

“We are confident we can continue advancing these trade agreements. There is a great effort being made to see one approved with the United States. I have much faith that we will achieve one with the European Union,” Uribe said.

COMIC: Why not?

U.S. President Barack Obama and his Colombian counterpart Alvaro Uribe needed no more than half an hour to come to an agreement.
