Colombia news - Blood and Rain

Colombian film La Sangre y la Lluvia (Blood and Rain) premiered Tuesday at the 66th Venice Film Festival.

The latest film of director Jorge Navas is vying for Venice's 'Lion of the Future', which is the festival award for best debut film.

The movie revolves around a one-night encounter between Jorge (Quique Mendoza) and Angela (Gloria Montaya) in the rainy streets of Bogota. Jorge, a cab driver,  and Angela, an artist, are two lonely souls in search for the meaning of their existance amidst violence, drug addiction, void nights, and pain.

The movie is being distributed world wide by Paris-based Rezo Films, which also sells the productions of world famous filmmakers such as Alexander Sokurov, Eric Rohmer, Volker Schlöndorff, and John Sayles.

La Sangre y la Lluvia writer and director Jorge Navas has been awarded with several prizes since he began to write the film. In 2003 he received a grant for script development from the Hurbert Bals Fund, in 2004 we was awarded a script prize by the Sundance Institute in Oaxaca, Mexico.
