Cartagena sets its sights on the fashion industry

fashion, colombia, Cartagena

Cartagena announced Wednesday its intention to become a world fashion capital by encouraging both national and international designers to present their collections there.

From Wednesday the city will be the epicenter of the Second Latin American Clothing Congress, with a gathering of representatives from the clothing, leather, footwear and accessories industries, reported news station Caracol.

An initiative called Ixel Moda will be launched with the intention of linking the Colombian fashion industry's academic and productive sectors, as well as encouraging the creation of businesses and strengthening Cartagena's position in the international market.

One international and three national design schools will contribute to this event; Colegiatura Colombiana de Diseño de Medellín, the Caribbean Autonomous University and la Escuela de Diseño Arturo Tejada, as well as the University of Chile.

These institutions will submit their proposals to be discussed by fashion experts from Medellin, Cali, Bogota and Barranquilla.

Ixel Moda will also serve as an opportunity for local designers to show off their collections, and the models taking part in the catwalk shows will have been selected from schools throughout Colombia.
