Colombian bombshell Sofia Vergara will be back on U.S. television this Wednesday playing Gloria in the new ABC sitcom Modern Family. She's playing the far too sexy wife of what's his name -- the-Al-Bundy-guy.
The basic idea of the sitcom is that it gives some insight into the lives of three families and, according to ABC, already is considered the best comedy of this fall.
Jay (the Al-Bundy-guy, what's his name again) is married to the much younger Gloria, played by Vergara, who brought her own son into the married and seems younger than the kids of Jay.
Gloria, not doing her best to promote Colombia, comes "from a small village, very poor, but very very beautiful. It's the number one village in all Colombia for the, what's the word?" "Murders," the-Al-Bundy-guy adds.

... Although Sofia's role is a bit of a stereotype, there's nothing necessarily wrong with "types" in comedies. She's great in it, and hopefully she can develop her character further. Even though Al Bundy is an icon, I think Jay is a better character for Ed O'Neil to work with than the Married with Children" dad. The show's excellent, with intelligent, funny writing and thankfully NO laugh track. (It is true, though, that the line about Colombia doesn't present it in an ideal light) |
