Colombians continue to be happy people. Their country occupies the sixth place in this year's Happy Planet Index.
The index measured the happiness of people in 146 countries. The happiest country is Costa Rica, followed by the Dominican Republic and and Jamaica.
Latin America as a whole is quite a happy continent. Nine of the ten world's happiest countries are Latin or Caribbean.
The United States occupy the index' 114th place.

... Not sure that´s what the survey said. The idea of the Happy planet index is to compare country´s self-perceived "happiness" with their life expectancy, and their ecological impact. Countries like the UK and the US showed slightly higher "happiness" than Colombia, but obviously Colombia´s ecological footprint is far smaller, meaning that they are theoretically more "efficient" at achieving their happiness. The main question to ask is perhaps whether or not Latin American´s greater happiness is genuine (related to stronger families, community ties, knowing how to have a good time etc.) a whether Latinos are more cultural conditioned to say or even believe they are happy without analysing it too much. rachelincolombia.wordpress.com |

... I believe that when a country and its people have gone trough all the hard horrible times that Colombia has to overcome, they celebrate and ejoy everything positive they can get. |
