Medellin man convicted for falsifying Coca-Cola

Colombia news - Coca Cola

A Medellin man was convicted to four years in jail for falsifying the world's most famous soft-drink, Coca-Cola. The man also has to pay US$178,000 in reparation to the U.S. manufacturer.

Carlos Alberto Arcila Lopez from the Aranjuez neighborhood had pleaded guilty to the charges and confessed having run a Coca-Cola factory from his home, selling the bottles of the world's most popular drink throughout the city far cheaper than Coca-Cola itself would sell them.

The judge ruled Arcila had violated the intellectual property rights of the world's largest soft-drink manufacturer. In his verdict, the judge took into account that the man already had in prison for selling ham with false brands and selling fake-quality liquor.
